at Auckland Folk Festival Kumeu Showgrounds from Friday January 25th – Monday 28th January 2008.
Our club has been entrusted with running the Auckland Folk Festival Welcome Concert in The Mill on Friday Jan 25th. We've invited some of the very best performers on the Auckland Folk scene to welcome Festival visitors to one of the best weekends on the folk calendar. So be in the Mill by 8pm and get your festival off to a cracking start.
You'll be entertained by:- (not necessarily in this order)
Alan Young who gave an outstanding performance on the autoharp when he was our guest at the club last year. In addition to being a fine exponent of the Blues Alan is also a wonderfully accomplished player of the autoharp and we're delighted to have him in the line-up.
We all know what stunning performances can come out of a ‘Blind Date’ gig. Well you won't be disappointed by Tititrangi's very own blind daters who bowled us over at the club's ‘Blind Date’ night. Mrs Trebleclef, in the guise of Rosemary Thomas, Jean Reid and Linda Hefford will stitch together some tight harmonies and instrumentals that will leave you wanting more.
A long time supporter of the Tititrangi club Roger White has been a previous guest at the festival and he's back to give us more of those songs he writes so well. His subtle guitar playing blends with evocative lyrics to tell stories that have a unique perspective; "Boy on a Bicycle", "Destruction Gully", "Riding on Silver Rails" are testimony to that.
With harp and song Robyn Goudge frequently enchants the audiences at the Bunker where she was a guest artist last year. She has a wide repertoire of songs and instrumentals which make her such a joy to listen to.
It hardly seems possible that nearly a year has gone by since Janet Thomson gave us a great set when she opened for Andy Irvine at Titirangi. Lucky for us she's back to give us more of her remarkable voice and accomplished guitar work.
A multi-instrumental, five piece band Westumbria were the September guests at the club. Their music, strongly influenced by the Celtic, English and American traditions, is bound to get your feet tapping with a lively set to finish off the evening. So there you have it; the Welcome Concert line-up for the 2008 Auckland Folk Festival. It's sure to be a great start to another Festival so come along and share in the people and the music.
