We’re part of that secret army of ‘indie’ musicians who fly just below the commercial radar, playing grass-roots music in an “unplugged” style. We’ve been touring New Zealand, Australia & the UK for 20 years, and what we enjoy most is to connect with audiences on an intimate level. We love playing acoustic clubs, small theatres, house concerts, churches - wherever people want to come close and really listen. But we can also be found jamming in a crowded cafe/bar, or filling large open spaces, like city squares or festival marquees, with the sound of guitars, mandolin, Rowan lute and harmonies.
We’re both songwriters, with our own styles, so we’ve become each others’ backing band. Mark has a penchant for acoustic rock, blues & reggae, whereas Brenda’s songs lean more towards new folk & alt. country. So what you get is an eclectic mix of material, that can be ‘pin drop’ delicate, or sound like a 4-piece band! We often pepper our shows with short bursts of poetry as well, just to keep things interesting.
Have you ever thought that you'd like to compere one of our club evenings? Or maybe you'd just like to gain a bit more confidence when speaking in public. This is your opportunity to pick up some pointers and learn a few tips.
Tricia Lee has been compering concerts both large and small for many years and in this workshop she will share her expertise and facilitate discussion on the peaks and pitfalls of being a good Master/Mistress of Ceremonies.

Mahinarangi died on 15th April 2008 at the age of 53. She was a lovely, generous, inclusive woman whose music spanned the divides of culture and genres. She felt at home at the Titirangi Folk Music Club and encouraged and supported many budding performers on the folk scene. This is an evening for her folkie whānau to come together and share an evening of songs and stories.
Floor singers and performers are welcome throughout the evening to play songs and music for Mahina: her own songs, songs she enjoyed singing, songs we associate with her, songs addressed to her. We expect there will be stories and reminiscences along the way. We would like to develop the programme in anticipation, so please make contact if you would like to perform; but have no fear, there will be room for spontaneity, as befits Mahina's spirit!
We are contacting those folk whom we know had an affinity for Mahina and her music. However, she touched so many people's lives that it's hard to keep track, so please feel free to contact us if you would like to be involved.
