Out of the beautiful west of Auckland come The Nukes, full of good humour and charm, and a certain something that makes audiences tap their toes, grin from ear to ear, and sometimes even shed the odd tear. This original New Zealand ukulele trio have quickly made a big name for themselves appearing on the Good Morning Show and National Radio, playing Bob Harvey's 70th (they love nothing better than a good birthday party), and touring round the country doing workshops and gigs - invariably to full houses.
The Nukes are: David Parker (Rhythm Cage, The Parker Project), Ben Collier (Goldenhorse, The Magnets) and David 'Snapper' Thiele - the eccentric glue that binds them all...... although it has to be said there's something a little fanciful about all three. Now that the ukulele is back in vogue The Nukes delight in effortlessly knocking out award winning tunes such as 'Peas and Carrots' (Apra award 2009).
In the past two years The Nukes have been stirring up a huge national following with a succession of performances at festivals such as The Bluff Oyster Festival, Splore, Hamilton Garden Festival, Coromandel Ukulele Festival, Devonport Food & Wine Festival, Hawkes Bay and NZ Ukulele Festivals, Titirangi Festival of Music and huge highlights in 2012, the Melbourne Ukulele festival and WOMAD.
May 2011 saw the launch of their first studio album 'Each to their Own' featuring old audience favourites plus some brand new songs to their catchy collection. The album received very favourable reviews and sparked a new promotional tour and is still the inspiration to continue writing and performing.
Currently the band are working on The Nukes Songbook, which they hope will become a resource material for their popular school concert/workshops.
