Chris Priestley has been singing contemporary New Zealand songs for many years and lately he has put together a programme of songs, many of them self penned, depicting events and characters from our New Zealand heritage.
The songs are mostly about unsung heroes although the occasional villain also puts in an appearance. Historical characters who feature in the songs include the heroine Huria Matenga, magician Darling Jennie, Von Tempsky and Kimble Bent who fought on opposite sides of the Taranaki land wars, gold prospectors Little Biddy and Captain Moonlight, balloonist Captain Lorraine and others.
Chris will be accompanied by Nigel Gavin, Martha Louise, Emily Roughton and Owen Hugh.
An informal ‘Singaround’ - ‘Open Mic’ without a Mic - A smaller group of people meet to share their songs and music.
This year we intend to retain the phutball cup, won for us for the last 3 years! by the deft wristwork of Cameron Lee & Ron Starke; and acquire the Tiddlywinks trophy, which has been gathering dust on a shelf at Devonport for the last couple of years.
Apart from the tiddlywinks and phutball tournaments, lots of other pub games are available, like darts, dominoes, cards. A scrumptious supper will be served. It's a great social evening that's lots of fun.
Come and support your club and have a great time doing it!
