Is it a performance? is it a jam? Is it a singaround? Whatever form it takes it will be folk. In all its glory. Precisely which folk genres will show up depends on who shows up, so come along with your voice, instrument, etc for a full on participatory folk event.
It could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but definitely will be an evening of our kind of music in the heart of Titirangi Village.
A balladeer, with a forty-year association with folk clubs in London and New Zealand, Tony performs traditional and contemporary songs from America and the British Isles. His voice has been described as: “a voice like hot creamy chocolate.”
Recognised for performances that are liberally dosed with strong, emotional melodies and lyrics, Hillyard researches and chooses his material with rare skill and sensitivity; carefully interpreting powerful ballads from the British and American tradition as well as great songs from British and American singer/songwriters.
Since arriving in NZ in 1985, he has regularly performed at many of New Zealand’s folk clubs and festivals. If you like songs that tug at the head and the heart, make a date to get to this concert.
