Kick off New Zealand Music Month with a night of New Zealand song and/or music.
No guest this evening, floorsingers before and after the break.
A great time was had by all last time these folks were our guests in November 2007.
Come see the arcane rituals that are Morris.
Sheriff of Nottingham to underling - "What's that going on over there?"
Underling - "That's Morris dancing sir!"
Sheriff - "Hmmmm....I'm getting a little worried about Morris....."
The evening follows the usual 'Club Night' format, with floorsingers in the first half & Morris dancers entertaining us after the break.
An informal ‘Singaround’ - ‘Open Mic’ without a Mic - A smaller group of people meet to share their songs and music.
Chris Stone, Holly Downes and Graham McLeod play new acoustic music for violin, double bass and guitar. Their compositions and performance combine the clarity and precision of baroque chamber music with the raw excitement and intensity of Scottish fiddle and Bluegrass.
Chris and Holly met Graham when they moved to Edinburgh after touring Europe in 2007 with Australian band Eilean Mor and the Australian Youth Orchestra respectively. They collaborated with Edinburgh based band Allaidh Modhan, of whom Graham is a founding member, and toured Scotland and Ireland. Together they subsequently formed The String Contingent and began writing and arranging original acoustic string music. Drawing from celtic, baroque and bluegrass styles, their diverse and flexible expertise brings a fresh perspective to acoustic world music.
We've had a couple of appetisers for The String Contingent already at Titirangi, Chris was part of Eílean Mòr when they played here in 2007; and Chris and Holly provided exceptional musical backing for Scottish singer/songwriter Frank Burkitt this time last year.
Enough appetiser, tonight we get the full main course.
The evening opens with a set from our own Bob Large, Singer, Songwriter.
