Virtual Folk Club – Saturday April 11th 2020

Well we can’t get together in the Beach Hall, but we can get together over the intertubes, so we’re going to experiment how our Clubnight format translates into an online event.

Hall, Guitar, Pipes.

So-

Doors open as usual at 7.30 = Join a Zoom meeting – details below.

We’ll spend the time till 8.00PM talking, saying hello, catching up with each other, and giving our name to the MC (PaulH) if we want to perform.

First half from 8.00PM – Usual story, floorspots comprising 2 songs, max 10 minutes, you’ll have the focus for the duration of your spot, rest of attendees muted.

We reserve the right to cut short a floorspot if the quality of a performers internet connection isn’t up to it, though the first option will be suggesting they turn off video, and see if that gives us a better audio experience.

There is a chat facility (typed comments) where audience can show their appreciation and comment. Too many people trying to audibly applaud, make verbal comments at this point can turn the audio stream to mush, so we’ll be keeping people muted between acts.

All attendees will be unmuted at half time, to give the opportunity to connect again, but take care, everybody talking at once will turn into an unintelligible mush.  You’ll have to provide your own tea/coffee/milo/biscuits.

Second Half – Not necessarily in this order:-

Paul Brown

Jean Reid

Ian Bartlett.

3 mini-spots, we thought to try three 15 to 20 mins per guest, just in case things go technically wrong with any one of them, then we can easily get one of the others in to fill the gap.

That’s it – no chairs to put away, no long drive home.

So, how to join up,

You can join from your web browser via the link below, but it works best if you download the app ‘Zoom Cloud Meetings’ from your Android/IOS store, or from Zoom.us for your PC. Once you have it, enter the MeetingID and you’re in.

You don’t need to sign up for an account to be able to participate, and if you don’t have a camera and microphone you can still listen and watch.

Titirangi Folk Music Club is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Martin Pearson – Saturday 14th March 2020

Martin is a strange mix of serious song, comedic parody and cabernet merlot. Not quite young enough to be up-and-coming and not quite old enough to be a legend, he will continue to describe himself as a folk-singer out of sheer bloody- mindedness, and will crash-tackle anyone who describes him as eclectic.

Doors open 7.30PM for an 8.00PM start.
Floorsingers First half.
Admission
Members $8.00,
Non-Members $12.00,

Bluegrass and Beyond – Saturday 15th February 2020

Bluegrass and Beyond
Bluegrass and Beyond
Bluegrass and Beyond – more colourfully!

The bluegrass we play is a mix of traditional, and newgrass with some other songs re-interpreted into the bluegrass genre.

More recently Cameron Bennett has contributed original songs with his unique flair for describing New Zealand stories in a way that fits right into the bluegrass genre.

We are:-

  • John Olding – guitar, lead vocal
  • Colin Speir – guitar, banjo, BV’s
  • Cameron Bennett – dobro, vocals and BV’s
  • Pete Parnham – bass fiddle, BV’s.

SuperSheep – Saturday 7th December 2019

A SUPERSHEEP CHRISTMAS AT TITIRANGI…..

Well another year has almost passed, and  that can only mean one thing…. Christmas is here again.

Another round of Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, malls full of Jingle Bells and White Christmas…..

Well fear not. We have the answer to your, perhaps, jaded Christmas  experiences.

Titirangi Folk Music Club has engaged the services of British Traditional folk group Supersheep,

who have promised to bring a stupendous programme of music, fun and frolics.

Supersheep offer you a traditional Christmas programme of Carols, tunes and songs of strong moral character.

‘What ?’ I hear you say? Well it is all true. Come along and find out for yourselves and give yourselves a Christmas treat.

Merry Christmas to you all…….

We are here. At the bottom of Titirangi Beach Road, just beyond the car park.

Rosemary Thomas – Saturday 9th November

Rosemary Thomas

Come and share a wee bit of nostalgia as I remember some of the many friends I have made in the folk scene from having been a member of TFMC, by playing some of the songs I have nicked off the terrific song writers I have met along the way.

I am also hoping to invite Ron Baker to add his lovely guitar to a couple of numbers and, of course, the wonderful Robin Nelson, who writes so many cracking good songs which he allows me to sing along with.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
